Giuliana Manfrini, 36, died after being pierced in the heart by a swordfish near Pulau Masoku Island in West Sumatra in early October. The Italian surfing legend was with friends at the time of the accident.

According to The Standard, Manfrini suffered a five-centimeter puncture on the left side of her chest after the swordfish leaped out of the sea. The police in Sibertu reported that she managed to ask for help from two onlookers at the scene.

Her surfing friends, Massimo Ferro and Alexandre Ribas, provided first aid before she was taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, she did not survive her injuries and passed away.

The news of Manfrini’s death shocked her fans and those close to her. Her last post stated that she would see everyone again in two weeks.

“From a rain of tears, now an ocean of flowers for you. A death like this makes no sense,” one of them said inconsolably. “It’s very sad to hear this news. A great loss for the family, friends, and the surfing community,” commented another.

Giuliana Manfrini was a law graduate, a surfing and snowboarding instructor. She was a co-founder of Awave Travel, a company dedicated to providing luxury resorts for surfers.
